Your #1 Bucket List List Should Be Volunteer Travel
A lot of people’s bucket lists are pretty self-centered. I get that. It is your bucket list. You probably have dreams of going to all of these amazing places. But, what if I told you that you could still go to all these amazing places AND not be quite so self-centered at the same time? Let me introduce you to the world of volunteer travel.
People around the world need your help. Why spend thousands and thousands of dollars jetting off to far-flung places only to pay through the nose for a cockroach-infested hotel? Why not spend a fraction of that, stay in better accommodation, and feel good about helping people at the same time? A lot of these volunteer opportunities are going to be near to some of the bucket list locations, just in case you want to take a detour on the way back, but you probably won’t want to go there. Once people get into volunteering, even the ones who are a bit skeptical at first, they fall completely in love with the idea. They just want to do more and more of it. You will find people jetting off all over the globe for their next volunteering opportunity. This could be you. Think of all of those destinations you could possibly visit.
Remember; one of the greatest thrills of volunteer travel, other than the whole ‘helping people’ part is the fact that you get to experience so many different cultures. As I said; we all have our own bucket list ideas. However, these are going to be the tourist destinations in most cases. The places where the roads are heavily worn. You don’t really get to understand the full culture of the destination because everything is so ‘touristy’. You do with volunteer travel. You will be taken deep into the heart of a place. Places where tourists barely tread (if at all), and you will get to experience what a place is like. This knowledge is so useful. It will help to make you a far, far better person.
