4 Ways to Be Happier At Work

Not all jobs are sunshine and happiness 100% of the time. Creating a happy environment is a team effort and not a temporary concept. We don't believe you can achieve happiness by accumulating a series of uplifting experiences. Rather, we consider happiness to be an overall quality of life that is not contingent upon our circumstances. And this goes for the workplace too!

Finding ways to be happier at work can deeply enrich your life outside of work as well. But the question is, how do we get to that point? How do we choose happiness and kindness even when our circumstances may not be ideal? We’re going to take you through 4 practical things that you can do everyday to help make yourself and those around you happier.

Engagement

What are some things that you actually enjoy about your work? Do you have any other hobbies outside of work? Are there places you can grow and excel at your job? If you feel like you’ve just been trudging through your job without any direction or real engagement, you may start to feel purposeless worn down. Make room for creativity and playfulness in your life. Find ways that you can incorporate passion and excitement in your job. Or find a new job altogether that excites you! Don’t fall into the trap of being overworked, overtired, and hyperbusy. Find a way to allow flexibility and fun to be a part of your work day.

Be resilient, but show yourself grace

Resilience at work means learning how to be adaptable and manage difficulties productively. You don’t let stressful situations get the better of you, and you don’t push them off to the side until they become bigger problems. One of the keys to experiencing true happiness in the workplace is to not be personally overcome by hardships. However, it’s equally important to show yourself some grace from time to time. You accidentally sent the wrong email or communicated the wrong message to your coworker. It’s okay. Your happiness should not be contingent upon your successes and failures.

Practice kindness

They key to experiencing true happiness at work? Simple: showing kindness. Treating your coworkers with dignity and respect, extending empathy and compassion, practicing appreciation, and constructively resolving disputes are all amazing examples of showing kindness at work! Encourage your coworkers daily, show them that you care about their wellbeing. Help someone succeed in their goal, apologize if you made a mistake. This builds trust and unity.

Organize office events

One of the most effective ways to boost morale and all-around happiness at work is to organize special events! Whether it’s volunteering together on the weekends, having pizza for lunch on Fridays, or going out for a fun activity, do something together that doesn’t involve work on a consistent basis.

“True happiness is not attained through self-gratification, but through fidelity to a worthy purpose.”
